Nightrealm:Dianne

“I had a daughter...once” Dianne whispered-a slight glimmer of pain danced across her usually stone cold features- almost in sync with the flooding of confusion that took place in the young child’s mind. “Where did she go? Did god take her away from you? Did she go to heaven?” The Questions almost felt like silver bullets fired from a pistol, as the small ebony haired child shuffled closer; her wide eyes filled with curious intent whilst her brain continued to conjure up an almost endless amount of questions. The thought of her child going to heaven was almost funny to Dianne; They were monsters-monsters who prayed on the souls of innocent children for fun, Monsters who enjoyed enslaving babies for the soul purpose of watching them die. Monsters who’s prime intent was only to hurt people.
So of course her child wasn’t going to heaven.
However, Emily’s wishful thinking and kind hearted hopefulness acted as a wall of ignorant defence; the monster couldn’t bring herself to tell the child that not everybody goes to heaven and that some beings in the world are made to be evil from the very start...residing in dingy, overcast caves-exactly like the one they were resting in.
So she left the subject be. Instead, turning and answering the Emily’s question with one of her own. “You want to know what happened?” The youngster nodded eagerly, burrowing herself down in Dianne’s raven leg fur like she was settling down for a bedtime story. “Alright then”, she spoke-then proceeded to cast her mind back to a very long, long time ago.

The faint flicker of a smile tugged at the Corners of the monster’s maw-happy memories hovering over her mind like a hummingbird in flight. “I guess I should start on what she was like…” The creature took a deep breath, and then proceeded. “She was just like me; strong willed, brave, intelligent, beautiful, never Lazy; Constantly occupying her mind and body with activities and work-to see her still was a rarity!” Dianne hummed contently, remembering the countless times she had told her daughter to stop working, or stop exercising-only to be met with a disgruntled response and an excuse to proceed with whatever the task was. “However, this wasn’t for long. Soon enough after her 22nd century birthday, that was when the shadow war began. A lot of our kind lost their lives, in fact it was the most brutal war our realm has ever seen. And the worst thing was-” She turned to Emily, pain anger and sadness resided deep in her soul-instigating burning fires of rage and fury. “It was started by our queen. She wanted to marry a man of another realm-one who wanted nothing but destruction for us and our kind. We didn’t like it-We fought against her. So, she declared war on our lower level shadow monsters…” The creature paused, her obsidian eyes, glancing towards the child which was now displaying features of total confusion.
Emily felt a furry hand on her face-followed by the monster’s mixture of pathetic sobs and mumbling of words which made the child feel sadness, sadness because of her friend’s loss-her pain. “I lost her in the great war. She was taken captive, and I held on to hope that she was still alive. But our side found the body eventually, strung up-“ Emily’s eyes were wide with fear and discomfort as she waited for the next part of the story.
But it never came
Instead, what came was a smile through the pain-sunshine through the clouds, the gold at the end of the rainbow. “But…I have you now” The monster got up, giving the child a pat on the head before picking them up, placing them on her shoulders and striding out-through the cave’s opening.

“yes, you…Have me now
